Like That Girl On American Idol Crying Over Sanjai, Only Ten Times Worse And Spandex Shorts Were All The Rage.

I used to be an MJ fan.

When I was about seven years old my brother and I would go over to my neighbor's house to watch Michael Jackson's music videos. I'd lie on the couch hiding my face with my blanket so that nobody could see me crying. Yes, I was worse than Sanjai's crying fan on American Idol.

My neighbors were all boys and they would ask me why I was crying but I was too young to understand why.

I slept with a picture of him under my pillow at night and would dream about him in my sleep. It was an obsession; of course this was back when he was still "normal". (I say normal while making quotation marks with my hands because my version of normal is strange compared to others, but it's all relative right?)

So I am obviously, or not so obviously, over my crush on Michael. The end happened when my brother told me that Michael Jackson swore. Yes, I was so naive that swearing was the worst sin that I could think of. He might as well have told me that I was going to hell because I loved Michael.

I was devastated.

I refused to believe my brother and that night I held my shiny Michael Jackson photo in my hands and bawled all night long on the floor of my parent's bedroom. I knew that I just could not love someone who swore, so like the good girl I was, I finally let Michael go.

Good God I was so molly! Would someone slap that little girl into reality please?

Sheesh.

So what about you? Are you an MJ lover or hater?

I have no comment, other than the fact that I'm tired of him taking over every radio station I have!!

Oh, and did you happen to notice that you won our giveaway?? Silly Pooba!!

Bleh. I'm so over it. MJ hasn't done anything noteworthy, unless you consider plastic surgery and alleged child molestation noteworthy, in years and years.

I am a fan of his talent - his music - his smooth moves! Forgot how many songs of his I really liked...

as a person - I do think he was very strange - odd. Almost like he would say things that he believed when obviously it couldnt be the truth - like him saying he's only had 2 nose jobs - no other plastic surgery...

I do think he was a troubled soul though... from a child star with an abusive father - I do believe he had inner demons he had a struggle with...

I do think our world lost an amazing talent though...

Thriller freaked me out. I never had the MJ love.

Thriller was all the rage back when I was in elementary school. Our bus driver used to play the album--on her cassette boom box--on the way to school every day. I'd get off the bus singing "Beat It".

Regardless of what people say about MJ right now, you can't help but feel terribly for his family and what they're going through right now, not just with the loss of a son/brother, but with all of the legal battles that they will have to deal with over the coming months.

His music and dancing were revolutionary for their time.

I don't think he ever had a life.

He was just a singer.

He is dead.

It should not be 24/7 news coverage. How many other talented people died on the same day and have not be recognized just because they weren't MICHAEL JACKSON.

It is sad but I will never understand the wailing and crying and woeful mourning for someone that a person has never met. I mean people were SOBBING on TV. Seriously.

Sorry, rant over.

I am a fan of his music, smooth dance moves, but it ends there. Yes, we all need to acknowledge that he has died.....but to this extent? Is this Princess Diana in the making for the Jackson family?

I was definitely an MJ lover in those Thriller days and even remember that my father had one of his earlier albums. Was it called The Wall? Something like that. As time went on, my obsession passed and was instead on... get this... Boy George!

I was a die-hard when he was in his heyday. You know, pre-creepyness. Think Billie Jean, Thriller, Black or White, etc. He was the greatest!

Hilarious...so these people crying have no idea why? The spirit just takes over, huh?!! I admit that I too love his music, dancing, and his videos were complete productiions for their day!
however, I also think that he had alot of issues due to his family life and rise to stardom at such a young age.

Amy said...

I love his music and he fascinated me. His music will live on forever.

Rebecca said...

I am a fan of his music - and feel that the system of pop music/culture that made him so famous is what caused him to have so many problems.

Regardless of his 'issues' as of lately - his music changed all music and will last until the end!

I was never a fan of his music aside from liking a few of his hits.

I thought there had to be something askew when he started drastically changing his face.

When he settled a lawsuit for $22 million, and subsequently gave that creepy interview {I forget the interviewer's name - Brashears maybe}, I personally couldn't see him as anything other than a pedophile.

Love most of his music, was in awe of the 'early Michael' and weary of the 'late Michael'.

So funny you couldn't love a swearer...still the case? :)

Four words:
What's. Not. To. Love!?!?!

It's freeking MJ!!!

Yes, you were WAY more molly than I EVER was. HAHAHAHAHAHA. I'm sooo gonna make fun of you for that! lol

But, the king is still the king, to a molly like you or a heathen like me! ;)

You already know my answer. He was an amazing artist and I feel bad he had such a messed up life. Too funny about the swearing thing. I never knew! Bought the tix for the reunion. Makin Josh go too! ha ha ha

I am sorry for your and the world's loss.

Are you serious? You really cried as a kid? Oh dear Pooba...what are we gonna do with you...

Liz Mays said...

That's funny...because when I heard that he swore I developed an instant crush on him. It continues to this day.

(Ok, none of that is true...but I wish it was. Well, even that part is not true.)

When I was pregnant, I listened to my MJ hits cd (particularly BAD and Billy Jean) super loud in my car nearly every day. When Monsoon was born, he screamed every time we got in the car and the only way to soothe him for a while was to play MJ super loud. Seriously. I'm a lover. :)

While I have never been "in love" with MJ, I have always loved watching him dance and I thoroughly enjoy his music. Regardless of what everyone says about him, I think he was a very talented and amazing man. None of us is perfect and people have been way too critical of him.

Hernandez Family said...

I agree with Rebbeca Jo 100%. I am sad that he died but, I would be more sad if he was still creating the great music of his past. Rest in peace little plastic man!!!

PS. I had no idea you loved him that much and I think it is so cute that you were as naive as I was!

MJ was such a good dancer and artist. he will be missed, I actually went to school with that that MJ alledgedlly molested and they told me it was all a big stunt againt mj to gain money.
those fuckers.

The guy was a musical genius. There is no doubting that. Love his early music especially PYT and some others.

It makes me sad he had such a troubled life but I think some people who are truly brilliant can not deal in reality. I have me others who are off the chart in their "talent" and are neurotic in other portions of their lives.

The thing that makes them so amazing/smart/creative overtakes the other portion of their lives.

I am sad MJ has passed away but am not crying over it. I am not brilliant.

Nana said...

He was a musical genius alright!

His life had turned so weird. Now that he is dead all the talking heads on t.v. are doing nothing but singing his praises. I don't know what to think about him.

I am a bit conflicted on the issue of MJ, Poob. He is the king of pop. No one can take away how utterly ground-breaking Thriller was. I mean, he really was ahead of his time. However, the plastic surgery, not to mention the molestation allegations, kind of turned me off.

There you have it.

I think Michael Jackson was SO talented and I can forgive him for his image problems and plastic surgery fixations because I think there was a little mental illness going on there. But I do believe he abused boys and I just can't roll with that one. Some things are just not right for anyone, even Michael Jackson.

I'm not exactly a hater but I'm not exactly a lover either.

I'm definitely a fan of his music! and he was a killer dancer! How cool would it be to have those moves....

I definitely loved MJ!! I wanted to marry him at the ripe age of 5! I got turned off by him at the end, but I still love his music!

Mixed feelings here. My sister carried much the same adoration for MJ that you seem to have had. But I liked him and was brought into the scandalous coverage too young in life.
Sad to see him go, though. He really did break doors untouched before his time and was the King of Pop.

LadyStyx said...

I love a good deal of his music. The older the tune, the better I love it.

Im not going to comment on the rest of it though. He needs to be left to rest in peace...

i wouldn't say i love or hate the late MJ.

he will be remembered as good and also as bad.

who's bad? (poor taste reference)

i just hope he didn't mess his "children" up too much.

what a cluster.

My lust for Michael died out when he started turning white. I blame my interracial dating solely on Michael. At least that's what I tell my mother, that way she's to blame for what she thinks is wrong. I love manipulation.

Anyhoodle - I've always admired his talent as a performer. His personal life isn't my business.

I'm still cracking up at what an outhouse on the prairie chick you were, crying over profanity-Mike. LOLOLOL!

Someone pass me the tequila!

I loved the music (you know, doing across the floors to MJ) but disliked the man.

Megan said...

LOL You're too funny. My love obsession was with Jonathan Brandis.

I was never a huge MJ fan. I liked some of his music but I could take him or leave him.

Still, sad and shocking that he's gone.

LOVED Michael.....back in the old days.....the "Thriller" days....not the "oh my gosh what happened to your nose how do you breathe" days....sigh.....

Xazmin said...

Oh my heck...you make me laugh! I can't believe he swore! Yikes!

I loved him back in the day...still love watching him...but I honestly feel that his death isn't nearly as sad as what his life had become.

haha! Fun!
I am an MJ music lover. his personal stuff was, yes, quuuuuuite bizarre, but, as for music during my generation, didn't get any better.

Synergy Girl said...

I think the last time of true love was "free willy" ...(I can hear you laughing and agreeing inside)...but with MJ...I COULD fly...sigh....and then he turned white. As if!! But, his music is still the best, and we even did a routine to it this last season...The End.
