I Like Boys Who Like Boys

Well it was nice to sleep in my own bed last night after I've been away for work in a nice little mining town in Nevada. Sounds exciting no? Well the highlight was hanging out with my drunk bosses at the hotel casino. Drunk bosses are the best bosses, very entertaining and you definitely learn a lot!

Good times.

I'm pretty sure I got all the smoke smell out of my hair now so I'm no longer a walking cigarette. Gotta love the casinos.

Anyway....

This morning I heard this story on the radio and it made me so sad and so mad at the same time. I looked it up online to check it out for myself and I still can't believe it.

Two elderly men, Clay and Harold, have been partners for 20 years. Though they were never married, they had all their legal paperwork in place naming the other for such things as beneficiaries, medical decisions, etc.

Harold, 88, fell down the stairs in front of the men's home and was taken to the hospital. The hospital workers refused to let Clay, 77, to see Harold at all when legally he should have been the first person consulted about Harold's health.

That right there pissed me off, but here's the sad part. While Harold was in the hospital, the county fought for conservatorship of their estate, saying that Clay was just his "roommate"! The court only allowed the county limited access, but the county was able to take their home, their vehicles, and all their assets!

Not only that but the county put Clay in a nursing home against his will and denied his requests to see his partner. After three months of this separation, Harold died! Clay was never allowed to see Harold before he died! They've been together 20 years!

Can you believe that? The only thing Harold has left is one photo album.

ONE. PHOTO. ALBUM.

Clay was finally released from the nursing home, thanks to his lawyer, but as of yesterday, he has not been able to get back any of his possessions that the county just auctioned off!

Can you imagine losing your partner and everything the two have you have owned together? Everything that reminds you of them? It just makes me sick. Seriously, what is wrong with giving gay and lesbian couples the same rights as straight married couples?

Aaaaarrrrggghhhh! It makes me so mad that people get treated like this, what is this world coming to?

I so agree. It makes me sad. I believe that Obama is working on a bill that allows partners the ability to visit each other in the hospital and I think that's great.

Love = Love.

This makes me SO sad. Poor Clay and Harold! Live and let love, and let loved ones say goodbye to one another when they are dying -- for hell sakes!

That is very sad. But thank you for writing it. m.

Pathetic. Does it really matter who we choose as our "decision maker" when things like this happen? It's just not right and it is VERY sad.

I really don't understand why it matters who sleeps with whom as long as all parties are legal consenting adults.

I hope they send them that done so wrong there to jail and/or do the exact same thing right back to them.

I am a Karmic goat.

I don't get how all of their assets could be taken away! That doesn't make any sense. Very sad story all around!!

Oh that sucks! The county was obviously a big bully by their actions. Not cool. Not cool at all.

That is horrible!! I don't see why people think that they can decide how others live their lives! Who do they think they are? Why does it matter what sex you are attracted to? This makes me sick!

Wow. It was like someone had it out for them. To swoop in and undo someone's life like that - it's evil.

That was rotten what they did to them.

I agree with you but on different points. That is BIG GOVERNMENT for you. The government should have no say so whatsoever over whom you choose to give your $$ or property to. Whether it is your wife, husband, friend, Pastor, sister, cousin, Aunt, Grandma, girlfriend, boyfriend etc.

I also think that when you are dying WHOMEVER you want there should be there. If it is your best friend from high school, so be it.

I don't think the issue is fighting for the same rights as married couples. The issue is fighting for the right to decide on our what we want without the government thinking they are wiser and have a say so.

Government was never intended for all the things it is now. If you look back to how your country started...its just sad.

We need to get back to BASICS in our country.

I'm guessing they took their assets to pay their bills. That's what they do when someone dies and they have outstanding bills. When my moms neighbor died they auctioned off her house to pay for her bills (the State did)

When people say they are against gay marriage I always say that I think they should have the right to see their over ones in the hospital and have equal rights to property. This is the best example of why it's important.

Wow, that is wrong, just wrong. :(

Too many people prying into business that is not theirs to pry into. How two other people should live should not be any one elses concern except for theirs.

I swear I posted a comment here...

Anyway, I agree with the other posters, the government needs to BUTT OUT!!!! So much is going so wrong these days it's almost enough to make you give up....but we can't!

Jason, as himself said...

I can't believe this happened in California. I thought for sure this was a Utah story.

This just goes to show that if there is a domestic partnership law in your state, you should definitely take advantage of it. Luckily, Giancarlo and I were able to get married for real and hopefully would never have to go through such a horrific experience.

And, Pooba?

I like girls who like boys who like boys. A LOT.
