Jesus Cake

Christmas Part I: Christmas Eve with the Dunns.

Every year we spend Christmas Eve with my side of the family and every year we participate in the Dunn family traditions of treasure hunting in the freezing cold, stuffing our faces with steak, trying to stay awake through a boring Christmas church video, singing happy birthday to Jesus and making ourselves sick by eating the richest birthday cake in the world. And every year I love it!

This year was no exception, however it was a little different then others.

Of course there was this adorable addition to join in the festivities!

And of course I kidnapped him right away!

Until this guy with the permanent scab on his head came and pried that poor sweet thing out of my arms leaving me babyless.

The nerve!

That guy is my dad and he always has this scab on his head. It seems he has a problem with his depth perception or somethin because he is constantly hitting it on everything!

The corner of open cupboard doors, the bottom of his desk drawer after hiding his secret stash of Banbury Cross doughnuts, twice on the weight machines at the gym (because he works out two times a day), and this latest scab was caused somehow while he was climbing out of his car.

Even though my parents are divorced my dad always comes to my mom's house and sleeps over Christmas Eve so that we can all spend Christmas together. They have been divorced for about 10 years now and neither one has re-married. So this year my dad still slept over but there was another addition.

My mom invited her boyfriend, Bob.

Yup, my mom has a boyfriend. And if you ask her, I think she'll even admit it because the fact that she invited him to Christmas makes it official.

So Bobra and Brolan were our two new additions to this years Christmas fun, adding more drool, more crying, more pooping, and more sucking of boobs.

Wait. I'm mistaken.....there was no drooling.

Except for me. Over Jesus Cake.

Mmmmmm. Jesus Cake.

This year my mom spared us the torture of pretending to watch the mormon christmas video and instead she made us a slide show. I loved it! Bobra, the computer genius, helped her put it together and it was so much fun to watch. They really did a great job, everyone even stayed awake!

Well almost everyone.

Isn't that the cutest thing you've ever seen? Wait there's more!

We opened a few presents that night and I am proud to say that Logan's favorite present was the one his favorite aunt gave him, never mind that it was the only present he opened that night.

I made both my parents photo books for their Christmas gifts from Al and I. I think they liked them!

The rest of the night was spent throwing kids in the air,

trying to convince Albert that babies look great on him,

Changing poopy diapers,

suphicating while Albert was bench presseing me,

And we finished the night watching Fred Claus.

Notice Logan STILL enjoying his favorite toy from his favorite aunt!

cough...me...cough, cough.

I love that your parents are still so close!

My parents could never do that, but my husband's parents get along pretty well, as do their current spouses.

And that cake looks delicious!

That's awesome that your parents still get along well. My dad has the same problem with getting sores on his head. Every time I see him he has a new one. :) You'll have to post that cake recipe, it looks delicious!

I feel like I was there now. The toddler holding the baby was adorable. Also the push ups quite amazing and your DAD is a very, very good sport! I am glad your holiday was a good one.

PS. Do you put a little baby Jesus in the cake for someone to find? Or break a tooth on...

Love the Jesus cake idea. funny. Maybe you should tell your dad to just grow some hair on his head. Wouldn't that solve the prob? :)

Ah yes, I believe what you call Jesus cake, we in my family call Better-Than-Sex Cake. Er....that's awkward.....and yet, both mysteriously work....

I am SO jealous that your family can get along well enough to have moms, dads, and boyfriends present. The idea of that situation in my family could quite possibly give me a brain aneurizm.

And your dad is HOT. Just sayin...

And WTF. I haven't seen you in YEARS. Let's fix that, ASAP.

Very cool that your parents keep the relationship on a nice level...makes it so much easier on the rest of the family...but it must have been a bit weird with the boyfriend there. Glad you had a great holiday. And if my hubby ever tried to bench press me...well...lets just say he's not that stupid!!!! Or he'd be dead.

Dude, you dad is totally buff. Does he need a girlfriend? Oh wait, I already have a bald husband who smacks his head on everything, especially when it is sunburnt. Oh well.

Looks like fun was had by all. Great that your mom and dad get along so well. Looks like her boyfriend was hovering, shall we say, a little bit.

The pictures of those babies together is the sweetiest. I love the big one with the paci holding the little one.

Yes, you really need one of your own. The hubster looks great with one on. Work what ya got girl 'til ya get what ya want. wink wink.

I've done the photobook for the past two Christmas's and it's been a big winner (and saves everyone else time so they don't have to scrapbook everything.) And it's from Sadie's perspective... which is neat 'cause she isn't even two yet.

That's awesome that your parents are still willing to spend time together on the holidays. My divorced when I was young and it wasn't quite so nice.

That really is the cutest baby in the whole world.

Thanks for sharing.

Love all the pictures!!! That tiny diaper is too cute!! And how cool is your family that your dad stays over - even with new boyfriend around.

I was going to ask - was it Bob or the baby that was doing all the pooping & drooling - hehe!!!!

And those photobooks are fantastic... I use to order one every month ... have a huge collection - but they're so nice!! I'm sure your parents loved it!

Please buy your dad a hat. For me. I can't bear the thought of him living out his life with a scar on his head. It's just not right.

Your parents sound like my parents! They've been divorced now for a few years, but it seems like they get along much better now that they're divorced. They aren't remarried either, but my mom has a "friend" that she won't admit is her boyfriend! lol
Your nephews are adorable.

p.s.....I wasn't going to say it, but since everybody else did...your dad is buff!!
