Schmelanoma

So about a month ago I told you about my little friend The Mole that I had to get cut out of my chest so I thought I'd give y'all an update. (Don't know why I all the sudden have a southern accent went I start typing a post, my apologies)

Well the test came back positive for Melanoma and apparently the chunk of skin the doc took out last time wasn't big enough so I had to go get more removed last week.

Yay!

I'm happy to say that all went well, I've got 14 stitches underneath the skin and 16 on top. I would love to gross you all out by posting a picture of my stitches but they are located right under my boob and since I like to think of my blog as "family friendly" and because I'm always thinking of the children, I'll leave the picture out.

I did however draw you a picture, ya know, just so you get the idea.

Y'all didn't know I was an artist did ya? (There I go again, I apologize)

There was no fainting in the operating room this time. In fact it was quite the opposite, this nurse was fascinated with my cut and kept commenting on how cool it looked and what a great job the doctor was doing. Ummmkay, whatever psycho.

Now when I go back in 2 weeks to get the stitches out, the doc has to do a thorough exam. When I say thorough, I mean he has to examine everywhere that I have skin.

EVERYWHERE.

Which is EVERYWHERE.

I am so looking forward to that.

So on another note, Alex and I got to hang out with our nephews last Friday. We love having those two guys over, they are the cutest funniest kids ever! It was the day after I had my surgery so I was tired and loopy from the pain meds and they were concerned that I didn't feel good.

I explained to them that I had to get stitches and that I was just sore. They were so worried and of course being the boys that they are, they wanted to see the stitches. And like I said before, I'm always thinking of the children so I refused to expose them to such images.

Jaxon kept lifting up his shirt and saying "See, just go like this so we can see your stitches!"

After I explained that I couldn't do that, he then pulled his shirt collar down to show his chest and said "Ok, then just pull your shirt down like this!"

Oh, if it were only that simple. Alex and I were laughing so hard!

After the kids went home, Rachael, my sister-in-law (their mom) wrote me on facebook that Jaxon said,

"Mom, poor Kelly broke her heart and had to get it stitched back in!"

Oh I love that kid!

Oh that was the sweetest thing that he could have said! Hope you are starting to feel better, and that the doc doesn't find any more spots!

first, your nephews are made of cute.

and second, thank you for reminding me why i am NOT tanning anymore.

after my father and my sister both had to have moles removed, etc. can you believe i was actually considering tanning again for my upcoming holiday?

fuck me.

andy

p.s. thank you for not posting your cut and stitches. i'm eating a breakfast sandwich and would have totally woofed;)

p.p.s. but a disclaimer would work too...i'd come back later with an empty stomach.

Oh, Pooba, I hope they got it all out this time! I'm sure it's a nice breast accessory though.

Liz Mays said...

Your diagram cracks me up but the melanoma doesn't. I'm sorry they had to go at it twice but I'm glad that your doctors are careful enough to keep rechecking it.

As far as the skin check...I had one done and how come I didn't have to be searched EVERYWHERE? What a bathing suit covers was pretty much left alone, albeit a thong bathing suit, lol.

Debbi said...

Okay, you nephews cracked me up! How awesome "all you have to do is go like this!". It's so simple to a child. lol

And have fun with the thorough exam. MMM. So super jealous. But, just so ya know, I'd do the exam for you-- because I truly love you that much!

Good for you for having such a great attitude about everything. I'd be freaking, but here you are, drawing doodles and speaking in tongues. Pretty impressive! :)

theUngourmet said...

Yikes! Sorry you had to go through this! I'm glad you had it checked out when you did. I hope you heal fast.

I had a mole removed from the bottom of my foot a while back. The removal didn't hurt, what did hurt like a blankity blank, was the needle jabbing into my foot to numb it! I literaly yelped a few times during this process. Luckily, it was nothing but a mole.

I had to have that lovely full body check you speak of and the Dr. brought in a trainee to observe. Awkward!!

Sara said...

You mean even between your toes? EEK! Hope everything comes out spot-free. Heal quick! And what cute little boys. Mine is 4 is getting fascinated with boobs. My 3 year old daughter pets everyones. Just to see if they are smooshy.

Anonymous said...

Girly Girl! I am in this same boat. I've done the through EVERYWHERE CHECKS for 8 years now. I am glad things came back good. It's a constant struggle to stay on top of your moles! But you can do it~!

And yes people THEY DO CHECK EVERYWHERE-- MOUTH, EYEBALLS, IN YOUR HAIR, YOUR HOO HA.. EVVVVVVVVERYWHERE these things can grow.

CHECK yourself. Stay on top of your moles ladies.. Or me and Poob will have to beat you down!

Queenie Jeannie said...

I'm sorry you had to get another hunka-chunka boobie skin whacked out. That doesn't sound fun at all. Hopefully you got lots of REST, and are drinking lots of WATER, and they gave you lots of GOOD DRUGS!!

Prayers for no more of the icky "C" word!!!

So if you are getting totally checked out, I hope your doctor is cute!!!! (don't forget to wax, k???)

And I'm trying to keep this upbeat because this isn't a fun subject. You know I love ya!

Nana said...

I am so sorry to hear about your broken heart! I'm glad everything is turning out well.

I have to have the all over skin skan once a year, so I feel your pain. So not right to have a dermatologist looking well, where they have to look.

I had a mole up high on my inner theigh yeah, anyway it was cut out.

Needless to say the doc and I are having an affair now.

Heath'e' said...

Kel, my love you just saved me an email. I was about to write to see what happened. Cause I don't text and you do talk on the phone ;). Can I say I"M SOOO Sorry!! That totally sucks. I hope they got it all and don't have to cut any more of my KELLY!! I'm sure Alex likes to check it for you and take pix. it's probably a good thing your keeping it family friendly and all. I love kids and how they rationalize things. "lift your shirt like this" HA HA HA LMAO!!! What a freakin' cute kid. I love that he said your heart was broken. Such a sweetheart! I hope they find no more SERIOUSLY. LOVE ya!

Alexis AKA MOM said...

Oh sweets, I hate to hear about the mole! What a pain!

That is the cutest thing I've heard, out of the mouth of babes! They are always so smart and think of everything!

Keep us updated, I'll be thinking of you!

Have a wonderful Monday :)

LadyStyx said...

Might not be something you want to do, but considerin what was found it would be a very good idea. Just think of it as a necessary evil. My mom had to have one removed from her back. She used to be a sun-worshipper when young and now has all sorts of problems with her skin. I was the same as her, only since my skin wasn't as fair, I was out all the time. I'm going to need to do the same thing myself. *adds it to the list of what to check during the yrly exam*

The Blonde Duck said...

You poor thing! That's scary! I'm at the highest risk of skin cancer so they're always removing moles from me!

I love that kid too. How old is he? You know I have two daughters and I'm just trying to do everything I can to get into that awesome family of yours---or should I say of ya'lls?
: 0 )

Thanks for sparing us the boob flash frankenstein and if you want to see some real art I posted the boys Miro artist study on the PassportAcademy.com blog.

They don't get their artistic talents from me that's for sure.

Glad you are okay. Cannot wait until you get your full on exam of EVERYWHERE you have skin. Is Alex going with you? How do we know the nurse or the doc don't have a crush on you?

mommakin said...

Your nephews are possibly too cute to be true.

I'm glad you're taking care of yourself - that is so scary.

Good luck with the checkup! Hopefully it's all been removed and you're good to go.

The Wife O Riley said...

That is so cute that he said that!! Kids can be so sweet sometimes.

That's quite a picture! I guess you can always say you were bit by a shark or stabbed in a knife fight. You know, to get some street cred.

Lee said...

Your little nephews are so cute. :)

I'm glad your little surgery went okay. My mom had that done a few weeks ago.
It was the time I almost fainted.
I hate moles...

Julia said...

I know I was one of the people all "don't worry about it" "its nothing" "the doctor snips stuff off me all the time" but I am sorry to be so flippant. I hope you feel better soon and that your bathing will still look stunning on you. :)

Hey at least it is not across your forehead. Ella had 22 stitches above her eyebrow about 2 months ago. It's healing well now though BUT I know the misery this entails. I highly recommend a product called scarguard available at the dermatologist office.

MsTypo said...

Good luck with teh checkup. **hugs**

Jon and Steph said...

Goodness..... I hope they got it all removed this time and at your next checkup they don't find anything!

Those boys are precious....

AdriansCrazyLife said...

Ah Pooba, I'm sorry to hear that you're hurting. 14 stitches - I'll bet that's a big ouch! But I'm glad that they found it before it causes you any bad problems, especially if you're thinking of having kids one day soon. So it sounds like a good time to catch it. Hope everything continues to do well.

Justine said...

OMG, how awful and scary for you and here you are making jokes about it! Do you have to have any kind of treatment, or is this it?
And oh boy, that doctor's going to look in every nook and cranny, isn't he? Shave shave SHAVE!!!!!!
Your nephews are so funny, and I think it was mean that you didn't expose yourself to your nephew. Geez, it's under your boob, not ON it! In fact, it's mean that you didn't post a pic for all of us!

Justine :o )

Rebecca Jo said...

Dang Mole!!! But glad you got it taken out & are on top of things now before they got much deeper & things could be worse...

I'm sure that's not a fun spot to have it - is your bra rubbing it?

Let us know what else you find out from this biopsy...

And since I have had to had moles removed too - I have to go for a check up yearly for an exam... Yeah, they do look EVERYWHERE.. that's just weird someone looking THAT closely to your WHOLE body!!! I think they need to offer at least a glass of wine before they do that!

Andrea Harper said...

Silly Kelly, don't act like you're shy about putting your boob pictures on the internet...

Now that you are divorcing the Sun, maybe Linda will give us a discount on her Airbrush Tan if we go in together....like a two-fer. Pretty sure she'll go for it.

Or, on the plus side, if you just go au naturale you would look more like a vampire, and we all know that's your NUMBER ONE priority.

Holy poo I LOVE YOU.

Rachel said...

I keep MY breats off my blog too but breast paintings, other breast, breast sculptures well that's fair game. It's my own selfish plan. Maybe if I plaster my blog with boob then people will get used to it and won't give me the evil eye when I breastfeed. (Insert evil laughter here)
