For a little background read this first.
Here is the guilty party:
You can see the guilty party's tattoo on her right hand:
And now, the culprit:
Those little red things next to the vines are the initials of all her grandchildren.
And here is the incriminating evidence:
At the very bottom of that vine is the "R" written in red ink.
The "R" that can stand for anything but Rycker.
The "R" that is forever to blame for this poor baby's namesake.
The "R" that has indefinitely defined this baby's childhood nicknames.
The "R" that is to blame for all future name calling.
The "R" that has determined the initials sewn into this child's bathrobes. What? Doesn't everyone have their initials sewn into their bathrobes?
So, now that I've built up unnecessary suspense. The parents of this child have taken that "R" and transformed it into a "B" and the baby's new name will be:
Britt
Britt? Britt? From Rycker to Britt? Rycker was too common for them but Britt wasn't?
Whatever, I guess I can accept that but the only problem I have with this name is that NOBODY in Utah can pronounce it correctly. In Utah, we drop our T's completely off. Most people can pronounce the word mountain correctly, but in Utah we say mou'in.
My home town Layton is pronounced Lay'in. So this child will grow up with the name Bri' not Britt. So little Bri' only has half a name really. They might as well just leave the two t's off and write Bri' on his birth certificate.
Well, baby Bri' I love you but when you get here in 4 weeks, don't be mad at me if I call you Ryker once in a while, I can pronounce Rycker just fine.
Don't blame me, blame your grandma.

I didn't know people in Utah got tattoos! Coolest grandma ever!
P.S. Found you through SITS.
That... is quite simply the most interesting baby naming story... ever....
Grandma's in my family don't roll with the tatoo thing so much....
Pitty.
Oh kelly! You carck me up! I love reading your blog! You turn the most random stories into the funniest things!
And... I am sure if I went looking hard enough I could find some of those old notes you are talking about! Maybe we can bring them to our reunion! Teasing! But I am sure they are funny!
Hey home slice. Did you get my text yesterday about having the goods for tomorrow? And by that I mean blonde hair, not the drugs we usually do while using hot glue guns and scissors...
I feel a little bad for the grandma. Does she have to get her "R" changed to a "B"? Cool grandma :) Congrats on being saucy!
Cute story!! I bet you can't wait to finally SEE lil Britt!!!
Aw! Cute name!!!!!!!!!!
oooh i love the name Ryker!
Most grandma's have bracelets with charm heads engraved with the names of their grandkids...the tatto thing is a new one...wow! That was a great story..
Thanks for stopping by Blog Around the World. Just wanted to let you know that you are all linked up! Check in daily to see where in the world we are headed next.
Found you through SITS. Cute story!! I bet you can't wait to finally SEE lil Britt!!!
That's so funny that you all dont say your T's... & of course, be being a southern girl - the word "ALL" sorta came out as Y'ALL... we all have our speaking issues!
And most grandmas have to get people to talk about their grandbabies so they can brag...this grandma, I'm sure has the best segway into bragging about her loves...everyone has to ask about the tattoo - "Oh let me tell you what these initials are..." - LOVE IT!
oh kelly your posts make me laugh! I was sad I missed the baby shower, it looked like lots of fun. Too bad I work every saturday. That is too funny about the name and tatoo.
As an aunt, I know that it is our privilege and duty to name our nieces and nephews. At least that's what I live by. Go baby Ryker!
Britt Ryker...Ryker Britt..no? Col story....stopping in from SITS. Have a fun week...I'll be back to read up on your new beau ;)
Interesting story! I'm all about unique names as well...but I agree with you when you said Britt, I thought "that is kinda plain!" I do love Ryker though! I also like Ryland! I stopped by from SITS!
If I ever have a kid, I think I'm going to try to keep the name a secret. Hard, I'm sure, but I'm going to try. Not because my mom would get a tattoo (!!!) though!
Funny story!! Has grandma made an appointment to get that R fixed yet??
TOO FUNNY KEL. YOU HAVE PROBS IF YOU CANT PRONOUNCE BRITT KAY?
So you crazy Utah people don't pronounce T's?! What's wild. hehe We here in Texas don't have any pronunciation issues. *snicker* Ok, that's a total lie.
That's a great story! And what a cool grandma w/ that tattoo! Well, at least Baby Bri' has an interesting story behind his name! BTW, I knew a kid once named Britton and I thought that was a cool name--but they've already decided on it--so...nevermind!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Sorry--I just *can't* share Gerard!! ;-)
LOLOL! We lived in Lay'in for awhile too. So funny! I think both names are cute, and I'm lovin that tat!!!
ha ha I love this!! Thanks for commenting on my blog! It is fun to find fellow Utah friends. Since I live in Clearfield I hear the Lay'on ALL THE TIME. I for one, pronounce it correctly and everyone that hears me say it right, comments on the fact that I do and sometimes they even call themselves lazy for saying it wrong ;)
P.S. My little brother's name is Ryker...
You are the best writer ever. Can I make you an honorary member of our family? I could use your witty commentary to get me through some family functions from time to time. Who would have thought that GRANDMA's TATTOO could cause such problems. If I were her, I wouldn't be too quick to adjust that R to a B!
News update. Babies name might be Ryder. I was helping Kelsi do her math and Chad told me he might let her have the name Amy wants which is Ryder. Then, no one will call him Bri' and crazy Gma doesn't have to change the initials.
