We Are Just That Cool

I remember the days of staying out late going dancing and to parties until 3 and 4 in the morning. You know those good old college days when you could survive on 3 hours of sleep with no problem?

Well now a days Albert and I are just a bunch of party poopers, seriously. I start getting tired at 8:30 pm and staying up late for us is like 10 pm. There are rare occasions when we stay late at a friends house on the weekends but still, we just can't stay out as late as we used to.

Is this a sign of old age or just uncoolness? Probably both.

Well, I think we figured out how to fix this problem. Last Friday night we had ourselves a rockin good time and stayed awake until the wee hours of the morning. How did we do this?

Did we inject ourselves with speed and 400 mg of caffeine? Well maybe, but the main reason we stayed up late was this:

Do you want to feel young and hip again? Get yourself a puzzle. Specifically one with 500 to 1000 pieces, I'm talking hardcore, none of that 100 piece sissy stuff.

We started this puzzle (brought to us by Mamarazzi) at 8:30 pm and by 3:30 am I about had it, I told Alex that we are too old to be staying up this late and we should go to bed. But that puzzle had some sorta power over him and he couldn't break free. He couldn't let the puzzle win. I finally went to bed assuming that he was right behind me.

When I woke up in the morning Alex was passed out next to me and I went into the kitchen to find this:

He had he stayed up until 5:30 in the morning to put that damn puzzle together only to find one piece missing. Of course he immediately blamed me and thought I hid the piece to sabotage him.

Come on Al, I would never do anything like that!

It wasn't until later that he found the missing piece in the pocket of my hoody that I wore the night before. I still deny having anything to do with that, the piece must have fallen in my lap, I'm not even joking people.

Oh dear, we are just that cool.

Once the last piece was in place, we could finally relax and peace was restored to the Silkman household. The puzzle is still sitting on our table, Al refuses to let me put that thing away after all the hard work we, well mostly he, spent on it.

He thinks that he beat the puzzle. Really?

You beat the puzzle that you couldn't walk away from? The puzzle that made you stay up against your will until the ungodly hour of 5:30 in the morning? The same puzzle that laughed at you when one piece somehow went missing? That puzzle?

Ok Al, you beat the puzzle, you win.

Now can I put it away?

Just shows the energy of the young... when I make it to midnight now, I'm thinking I'm a party-animal!!!

Its funny though because I just bought a puzzle for hubs & I to work & he just rolled his eyes at me... I'm determined too!

And know what my friend did with her puzzles - its really cool actually - she'd work them on her kitchen table & use them sorta like a hot pad... put her pots & pans on it so it wouldnt hurt the table.... she knew she wouldnt work the puzzle again & yeah, it would eventually ruin the puzzle, but she got the use out of it & then trash it... If only you can move it to the kitchen now without loosing a piece (in your pocket) - hehe!

We did the same thing a couple years in to our marriage. It was a Thomas Kincade. We worked so hard we wanted to save it so we bought glue and it messed it up...so I had to buy a new one and DO IT ALL BY MYSELF!! We got the glue to work and now it's in a frame in storage! :)

You should totally mount it on some poster board with spray glue and frame it for his birthday or something. That would be awesome. Plus a little bit mocking, so it's a win win thing.

I agree w/ Andy.

That's awesome! I am so with you, it's sad, Jon and I go to bed at like 9, and I get tired at like 8:00!

I am totally putting a puzzle together this weekend. Jon's mom got us several before we left and I thought "why do we need those." Now I know!

We are so old too!! I like to stay UP late but not stay OUT late.

The puzzle looks great!

Hahaha That's too funny! The puzzle had power over him...and then you had the last piece. Hahahaha!!

Talk about dedication. We all know you meant to sabbotage him, I'm sure his mind was realing. There is some satisfaction in putting in the last piecce.

HAHAHA! Yep, he beat the puzzle. Puzzles are bad enough to show how old you're getting, but seriously. This is funny.

We bought a puzzle while on vacation last year and only managed to get it about 1/3 done before the week was over. Impossible to pack it up, which really annoyed me because now we have to start all over! Plus, it's not nearly as pretty as your puzzle.

However, it's going to be a rainy and cold weekend and you've totally inspired me to drag that stupid puzzle back out. I'll let you know if we pull any all-nighters.

DUDE. Kevin and Al should add that to their date night(me so funny) where they put puzzles together. Kevin gets OBSESSED with puzzles. Every birth and every Christmas I get him some sort of puzzle shpill. He likes huge, gajillion peice, practially all water, impossible to do ones.

Meh, I say. I'll sit for a min, but then I'm so over it. I'm all, where's my US weekly, you know, something WAY more constructive than a puzzle where you have to use your MIND and stuff

Hahahaha! This is just pathetic!

But sadly, this is us on a typical night....ready for bed at 8:30.

Whenever we finish a puzzle we use puzzle glue to hold it together and then we put it in a cheap frame and give it to my mother in law so she feels forced to hang them in her house....hahahaha! True story.

I need me some George Clooney.

Lee said...

My mom and I used to do puzzles all the time. Except it would take us WEEKS to finish.

Oh, what's the harm? Just give it to him. He beat the puzzle. That's the funniest thing I've read all day. :)

I think being married means you go to bed early. When I was single I could stay up forever! Now I like to be in bed by ten.

My husband and I play trivial pursuit, but maybe we should get a puzzle!

And to think ... I was so EXCITED to think you had discovered the secret ... oh wait, it's 10:00 p.m. - gotta go to bed.

This makes me want to buy a puzzle to work on with Billy, but I am totally going to put 1 piece in my pocket - on purpose!

LOVE Dashboard!!! Got to see them at a college nearby, so there wasn't that many people there. Lots of room on the floor. But, speaking of being old (and actually I think I was the oldest one there!) I just wanted to go sit down!

LOL! When I first glanced at the pic with the one piece missing, I thought "how nice he left her the last piece!". *gigglez* then to read on that he hadnt and it was some awful misunderstanding...*lol*. That poor guy. Sorry dude, with the amount of time it took you, that puzzle whupped ya arse!

I love puzzles. I just don't do them any more because I always lose pieces.

Maybe Al would like one of those Puzz3D puzzles, where you get an actual sculpture from the puzzle. The only problem is, you feel guilty about taking it apart. Real, real guilty.

Scrabble keeps us up to the wee hours of the morning. Even though, my husband cheats terribly.

Yeah, you guys are super cool! But really Kelly, do you expect us to believe that missing piece "fell" into your pocket? Hmmmmm.......

That's hilarious! I've been on a puzzle binge too. We started putting them in the breakroom at work and it's kind of fun to spend a few minutes here and there playing with it. Then my son was sick one Sunday and we got a 1,000 piece puzzle done in one day! I do love puzzles.

It's good to know that we are not the only lamos going to bed early!(even on new years eve) We'll have to try the puzzle thing so we can be cool too!

Ya'll need a child to stay up with till the wee hours. You can come hang at our house and borrow our sweet Reagan....but I do mean BORROW because I'm madly in love with that child----dark circles under my eyes be darned!

Perhaps you and Albert got jiggety with it at the Denny's early bird special over the weekend?

Dare to dream.
