Confessions of an Addict

All my life I've had a love affair with cold cereal. Not one, but many affairs. If I had my choice, I would eat cold cereal for every meal of every day. That would be heaven to me.

But it is not until recently that my love affair has caused a problem with my domestic duties. Now I fear that on my road to becoming Bree I have taken a wrong turn on the "I Must Eat Cereal Every night Instead Of Making Dinner" Street.

I of course LOVE this street! There's no speed limit, the road is paved with Fruity Pebbles and lined with Apple Jacks Trees and fields of Rice Krispies and waterfalls of milk. Heck, it even snows Frosted Flakes here! I feel like Homer Simpson skipping down the graham cracker pavement with the chocolate bunnies!

My hubster, however, has suffered.

Unlike me, he needs real food for dinner. I don't know why, but he does. So while I've been speeding down my fruity pebble highway with the top down and my head back with my mouth wide open to catch any frosted flakes falling from the sky, he has had to fend for himself.

This is a problem. I come home from work starving and all my belly wants is Frosted Mini Wheats, or Lucky Charms, or Honey Nut Cheerios. So I give in and eat a bowl....or two....or three, so by the time Hubster gets home from work....I'm full and when I'm full I'm done.

I don't want to cook dinner for just one person, it's hard enough finding recipes for just two people. I used to plan my meals on Sunday for the week and have the grocery shopping done and my ingredients ready to go.

Not anymore.

How can I maintain my love affair for cereal and feed my husband at the same time? The poor guy hasn't complained...much, and he has been making his own dinner for weeks now.

When I go to the grocery store, I don't feel like buying anything else but cereal so sadly our fridge has been neglected a bit. Last night as I was lying in bed, I swear I heard a muffled cry coming from the kitchen and I swear to you every time I open that refrigerator door, the light dims. I think my fridge is trying to tell me something.

So this is my cry for help, is there anyone else out there with this problem? Can we start a Cereal Addict Support Group?

I think it's time I stop this behavior. But before I do, I'd like to share my top 5 favorite cereals, and yes, they are all full of sugar!

So here's to you Cold Cereal!

Yes, I LOVE cereal! I would do the SAME THING...but the hubby wouldn't allow it. I used to, and then he was all on my case about 'healthy' blah blah blah, and 'well-balanced' this and 'nutrition' that. So, I started cooking, I was horrible at first, but I've gotten better. Why don't you menu plan again and then make sure you eat a snack mid-afternoon (yes, it can even be cereal!) so that when you get home you cook dinner and aren't starving?

Eww. Kel, you're gross. And funny. I just eat potato chips till Chris gets home. Much better.

Ok Kell, I'm only doing this because I love you. Do you want me to be your CAA sponsor? (obviously that stands for Cereal Addicts Anonymous) I guess I can do that for you. I'm cool like that.

Ah yes the cereal addiction. I'm still slightly addicted to cereal, but if i didn't feed Gene well he'd be a big mad bear! I do heart the cereal though. Don't worry I'll be in the support group with you. GO COLD CEREAL!!

I go through spurts where I can't get enough cereal. I think Lucky Charms was my last addiction. And, yes, it's really impossible for me to just eat one bowl.

I'm gagging.... cereal is the only thing I can not tolerate - its not even allowed in my house. When I was young - if I smelled it - I would throw up.... the sight of it makes me gag too.....

Gotta go now.... ready to barf....

You didn't even include lucky charms or cinnamon toast crunch. I think you real problem is the way you eat cereal, how you have to have every flake coved with milk. You don't allow any dry cereal in your mouth. I think because mom never bought us sugar cold cereal has made us addicts for the good stuff. At smiths they have the general meals on sale for 8 for 8 bucks and i got 4 boxes of lucky charms and then rest fruit loops and ate like a queen for a week, ya it lasted a week breakfast lunch and dinner :( for alex tho I wish I could help you but I'm afraid I'm an addict to.

I'm in the same boat. I have picky little eaters so I cook a "kids meal" for them and since DH is usually out of town I get cereal. Now when he comes in town my attitude is, "What? I'm supposed to cook you dinner?"

He surely feels I pulled something over on him when I used to spend most of the day cooking up a 4 course meal for him. Ah, but that was before we had children...and I homeschooled....and maybe just maybe, I was trying to impress him and I no longer feel the need because I wore the dress, wear the ring and bore the children. Sad, but true.

Oh wow can I relate to this post! I love cold cereal too! My recent fave - Cinnamon Toast Crunch. LOVE IT!!! My poor hubster suffers too. His mom was one of those mom's that always made a five-course meal, served it at five, seven days a week. Hello! I can't compete, so I just completely throw in the towel and point to the cold cereal. He even has to get his own bowl out!

You are hilarious! Unfortunately, or fortunately, my husband hasn't realized my need for cereal yet. You'd think after 6 yrs he'd know. Although, I'll eat a bowl during a movie or for my snack after the kiddos are in bed. That works for me. Plus with the hubby watching I'm less inclined to eat more than one bowl! ;)

From one carboholic to another, I am feeling you! I want a bowl of cinnamon wheat Kashi cereal right now. If I can't have that, give me General Mills Granola with raisins or give me death. Then, there is the strawberry yogurt covered O's from Trader Joe's. And finally some gorilla munch might swing me into a good mood. Ok I am done. Good post!!! Oh yeah, my husband loves cereal too and eats it when he misses normal dinner. I am sooo lucky.
