Crackmart

I have a like/hate relationship with Walmart. Mostly hate.

I hate going to Walmart, it is just a huge maze filled wall to wall with people. Not just any people either, these people are like headless cockroaches attached to shopping carts wandering aimlessly with no sense of direction and no common courtesy and each cockroach has at least 10 baby cockroaches screaming and running in circles.

The idea of going to Walmart gives me more anxiety then the idea of giving a 3 hour presentation on the causes and symptoms of Gonorrhea to a crowd of pimply middle school students.

But, there are times like this past weekend when I just have to drag my sorry ass out there to find such items as these:

I am a sucker for containers.

You see that stack of white containers? A buck a piece! That's right people, I would've picked up some more but I couldn't fit anything else into my cart, I had to refrain myself from stacking them on my head just so I could buy a few more.

And look at these beauties:

I LOVE those fabric containers because there is a neat little spot right there on the front to specifically hold a label! Aren't they dreamy? The only disappointment I had was that they didn't come in pink or purple, but hey I'm still happy with my selection.

So on Saturday I spent the day organizing my hall closet. Our house is very low on storage and closet space so this closet is a multipurpose storage area for us. My main concern was organizing all of the medicine and first aid crap we have stuffed in there.

If you ever get sick, please just come over to my house because we are prepared for anything!

Doesn't that just make you smile? All the meds are sorted and labeled and are easily accessible. Hey even if your pet gets sick, I've got a container for that too.

So here is a pic of the whole closet:

This is like my crack, I totally get high on this stuff. It's a lot healthier addiction than actual crack, the high lasts a lot longer, and I can justify it by telling Alex that it's a hellova lot cheaper then buying the real thing.

I doubt you could buy 8 containers of crack for a buck a piece.

Not that I know from actual experience, I'm just sayin.

Therein lies the rub with Walmart. Great prices, but horribleness.

I totally am high on your crack too!! Love it! Its funny because I have a pet's meds container myself!!!

The one thing - I have to go in weekly & organize the organizers because my husband will throw all his stuff in ONE BIN instead of the one he got it OUT OF!!! Nothing takes you down from a crack high more than that! :-)

Well done. I won't go to Walmart unless someone is holding a knife to my throat. Hate the place regardless of the deals they have. Like you said it is full of headless cockroaches meandering around aimlessly and that is enough to take my own life.

I am inspired. No, really, I am. Though, I don't know if I can bring myself to go to Walmart. I wonder if Target or somewhere else would have some reasonable options. My linen/hall closet is the perfect place to start...

Green with envy. Seriously.

see, I love Walmart. For this reason, and everything else! But I think USA Walmarts are different than Canada Walmarts, given that all my Canadian friends love walmart, but all my american ones hate it! odd.

nonetheless, Nice closet! Really! I love love love that type of thing too, and did it a while back with black, cloth-covered wooden boxes. mmm. pretty.

While I have never seen the fabric containers at Walmart, I did find some beautiful deep royal purple plastic containers last year which melt my heart whenever I see them.

And why is it that all the headless 'roach kids have no shoes on??????

No 'before' pic?

I'm pretty ok with my walmart. There is one I used to go to, though, where EVERYONE was always stopping in the middle of aisles.

Not a big fan of Walmart either, especially the one by my work. I don't think anyone in that neighborhood works, the place is always packed.

Those closets look incredible! Great job!!

Crack might be a little more expensive, but with this economy, who knows? The price might have gone down.

You know, you and my mom would get along.
She LOVES finding new containers.
Everything is in it's own container in my house.
My clothes used to be in baskets that were on shelves.
But jeese, a buck a piece? Steal!

Oh my! My closet looks a bit like that...but my bins really need to be a bit bigger as they're overflowing now. Actually, it's more than likely time to just weed through them.

I dont mind WalMart. Then again I'm not one of the mindless hordes that just wander. I have a list, go in, get what I need and leave. Only time I wander is when I have to get clothes or wanna get something to decorate with, which aint often.

I'll never think of Wal Mart the same way again!!! Your sense of humor makes me laugh!!!

Well if you shoot for the eight ball of crack it does get a bit pricy but if you go threw my guy... Why didn't you get me some?! I'm about to go there to get some myself but I'm way to tired. Damn.

When you finally visit me someday in California, Pooba, I am going to be armed and ready. I will have puzzles and $1 containers galore for your enjoyment.

Oh, and plenty of red wine, cause that is just how we are going to roll!

It's all about organization, my friend, organization.

I tend to do Walmart vs. Target - price {comparing} olympic. It's so true, many people there at Walmart are just roaming around the store like zombies not knowing where to go...

Funny post as always!

I am kind of a neat freak as much as I can be with two insane kids in an 800 sq. foot house......but you dearie take it to a whole other level to which I can only aspire. ;)

Nice one! That's such a great idea and everything looks so clean and neat. You wanna come over to my place! We don't have closets ANYWHERE in our home. NONE! I could really use your expertise.

I so need to do this too!!!

If I'm lucky they'll still have crack on sale!

Thanks so much for visiting me on my SITS day....making the rounds. Wish me luck.

Ohmygoodness, a woman after my own heart!!! I'm so proud of your closet!! It looks fabulous!

I too just bought those cloth covered boxes for my crack...er...craft room! They are gorgeous and I got them at Michael's on clearance. NOT a buck a piece though!

I am so impressed. You have given me inspiration to clean out my bathroom closet. Those containers are awesome. Or, since you enjoy doing it so much, I could just hire you to do it for me. LOL

Thanks for stopping by my site.

And I'm now sitting here drooling over the perfection that IS your closet.

Wow. I think I fell in love with you a little bit.

And my 5 year old daughter calls it Fart-Mart. I'd have to agree. ;)

i LOVE storage containers. your closet looks great! :D

Nice job organizing the closet, but I'm a little concerned that you have an entire bin dedicated to anti-diarrhea medicine. Are y'all okay?!
Have you ever been to The Container Store? I went to the one in Chicago and my husband almost had to call security to get me out of there. On the flipside, most Walmart stores look as if someone picked up a trailer park and shook it; whatever fell out went to shop at Walmart.

Oooh...I just finished my taxes...bathroom closet next! I love those fabric boxes, I use them for kids toys.

I am terrible at KEEPing my things organized. I hate it. Maybe you can help me...

Thanks for commenting on our blog today!

whoa, I am in love with your closet!!

I hate Walmart and refuse to shop there, but I am envious of those deals. if you lived in the ghetto like me, you wouldnt be able to shop in Walmart, either.

I've literally had nervous breakdowns in walmart before! Have you ever been to the one in American Fork, it is quite possibly hell on earth.

And as for Gracie Mae, put on your cutest face and beg Al! I have been losing sleep over this sweet dog not having a home. She was mistreated but now has a second chance for a wonderful life. I know you are dog people so if you know of anybody who might be able to take her or even foster her for a while that would be awesome. When the economy gets bad people tend to ship their dogs out to shelters and it breaks my heart. She deserves so much, thanks for even considering it!!!!!!

get your ass over here and organize my closets. please.

Okay, Pooba. I think we must never get too close to one another as we would explode into a twirling cloud of containers and organizing. Fun stuff!! Me think we both need a girls night out :)

Dude, I hate to be the one to tell you this.....

but you totally spelled diarrhea wrong. I'm just sayin...

And Walmart is my boyfriend. Just the one on 114th, I mean, I don't get around or anything....

Ryan Ashley Scott said...

Amazing. Really, you did this in one day? Including the trip to Walmart? Impressive. It takes me 2 days just to recover from Walmart-Shame before I can even look at the bags.

I'm so laughing at Annie Harper - because I don't know how to spell Die-or-eah (I just say "runs" or something) but is she the first to notice? And is she right?

ChicagoLady said...

Honestly, who cares if you spelled diarrhea wrong? As long as YOU understand the label, that's all that matters.

I too have little bins like that in my closet, but they haven't been organized in ohhhhh, 10 years? LMAO I think it's overdue.

NIIIIIIICE....I wish my addictions had to do with cleaning and organizing! But since we have so many closets in this house I just chuck stuff in and slam the door really fast. Some day it's gonna come back to haunt me...but for now I can still get away with it.

wow lucky you! i love fabric containers as well, it just looks so clean and organized.

AdriansCrazyLife said...

Great job Pooba! Did I mention that my other blog is all about organizing? I'll have to point some of my people over here to get some good ideas about closet organization. Me, I spent the whole weekend reorganizing my photos - double prints are evil!

Love the closet! I bet it's refreshing to open. Nothing ever stays that way for too long at my house, with 5 kids!

Hun?? If you don't take that gorgeous, yummy lobster picture off your sidebar I'm going to have to punch you in the face!!! It's making me crazy for lobster and there aren't any good seafood places here like there were in Savannah. What you're doing to me is just plain ole MEAN!!

Have a nice day!

Yesterday when I was on a 3 hour scavenger hunt trying to find a stupid bonnet for baby chicklet's hat parade, I had to go to the one Wal-Mart I hate to go to. Why? IT SMELLS LIKE PEE. And yesterday, IT SMELLED LIKE PEE.

BUT - love the containers! :)

I'm organizing my bathroom closet at some point - but need help with the labeling. I'm curious to know what your clear containers contain - I can't read the labels :(

Thanks!

I have this theory that when you really prepare for something, it comes to you so you won't have prepared for naught. So I don't ever prepare for illness. And that is why I must sip blackberry brandy if I get sick. I have nothing "prepared." Tastes good though. ~Mary

April and Doug -

My containers contain a lot! Here are the labels:

1. Anti Diarrhea (spelled wrong): I keep tums, pepto, antacids, Gas-X anything and everything to do with the digestive system!

2. Cold - Flu: Dayquil, Nyquil, Sudafed, cough drops, Airborne, sore throat meds and sprays etc.

3. Allergy & Creams: Benadryl, Allergy pills, Claritin, any and all skin creams.

4. Pain Relievers: These are the basics advil, tylenol, exedrin, aleve etc.

5. First Aid: For cuts and owies, bandaids, neosporin, gauze, med tape, etc.

6. Pet Meds: Well, all the medications my pets have ever had to take.

7. Muscle pain: This is where I keep the ice packs, heating pads, arm bandage wraps and other muscle pain releif.

8. Other meds: Anything that doesn't fit in the others goes here. Mine has sleeping pills, stay awake pills, & old perscriptions.

And I usually use my label maker for the labels but it's out of paper and out of stock so I had to make my own.

I know we are WAY over prepared and after going through the closet I found 4 bottles of Nyquil, which is why it is good to keep it all organized so you don't buy stuff you already have!

WOW! Well I organized my closet today and I'm about to blog about it :)

I really enjoy reading your posts, I actually just started yesterday. But I had moments I was laughing so hard I was crying. You're hilarious!

Karin Katherine said...

Oh you are so my kind of girl. We would REALLY be great pals IRL. My idea of a good time is a weekend organizing with a label maker.

I prefer Target though. Every time I've gone to Walmart I've almost been killed. Or at least it felt that way.

I'm in awe of your organizational skills and cute containers.

I buy the containers with good intentions, but never actually get to the organizational part.

What a freakin' great idea. Our medicine cabinet looks like a bomb exploded (and we may just have more meds than you do!) I so have to do something like this.
