Chickish

I was driving home from the grocery store yesterday when I saw the weirdest lookin animal I've ever seen in the middle of the street. From where I was at, it looked like a mix between a small dog and a raccoon with an extremely long fuzzy tail.

"What the?" I said out loud to myself, is that possible?

Crap.

I'm never letting my dog outside again, a cross between a raccoon and a Great Dane could be deadly!

Well, as I got closer I realized it wasn't just one animal, it was twelve! They were just waddling down the middle of the road like they owned the place.

I drove home as fast as I could and threw the groceries inside the house, losing a 1/2 gallon of milk in the process, so that I could get some pictures of this cute little family.

We don't live near any water so I'm not sure where these little guys came from or where they were going! Mama duck didn't like me following them around at first, but at least I was able to get them off the road. Look at them trying to get up the curb! I was dying, they were so cute!

"Mama wait for me!" That's what they were saying in Chick language. Didn't know I was fluent in Chickish did you? That's why I get along so well with the Three Bay B Chicks.

We understand eachother.

After we enjoyed tea, cookies, and great conversation, I figured it was time to let them go on their way. They had a long way to go but I have confidence in that Mama that she will get her chicks to safety.

I named her Francesca.

Oh my gosh! WHAT IN THE WORLD. Why are they so far away from water? Poor little momma duck has to waddle her family all the way to water!

You're so funny taking pictures!
I hope Francesca gets her family to safety!

I was just seconds away from calling Monster Quest, I have them on speed dial of course...

AW cuters! I once got out of my car and stopped up traffic in the turning lane for the freeway on ramp for a group of these racoon dogs!! People were really thrilled about it I'm sure, but seriously SO precious, I'm glad you got pics of them going up the curb, made my day!

This post had me cracking up in the beginning. The image of you wandering around behind this gaggle of ducks, with your camera, totally made me laugh.

Then, I made the joyful discovery that you not only speak "chickish", but you also found a way for us to be together in REAL LIFE. Now my question is, why didn't you capture Francesca and take her home with you?!?

Absolutely loved this post. Thanks for making my day!!

At first I thought you actually saw the dog and racoon together- scary!

I've been out of town and haven't gotten back to you on the sake question...the kids did not drink it - just one whiff and I should have known better than to drink any myself - but I thought I shouldn't be rude.

Those are the cutest pictures. ever. I want them. I have been known to sit by ponds and feed ducks bread until they can no longer walk! oh i just love em! Enjoyed reading your commentary! Stopping in from SITS! Have a great day!

Okay, the first photo was a bit disturbing. I wouldn't let my dog out after seeing that either.

The rest of the photos, very cute.

How adorable! I have a mommy and daddy duck hanging around outside my apt, but no babies yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The squirrels are probably scaring them too much.

I'm sure Francesca knows of some water, somewhere...a pond or something, cause she likes to get her babies in water pretty quick after they hatch.

What a great story!

Those ducks are too cute. I am trying to forget the other picture.

We get quail all over the place and their babies are adorable. I will try to sneak a picture. They are usually too fast.

Well not fast enough to get away from my cat. (Sigh)

SO cute.. I am just trying to think of what a dog and a racoon could make as a baby..

I kinda think that probably wasn't a really romantic interlude between them? She looks a little frightened.

I used to live near 3 man-made lakes. Saw duckies all the time.
But those duckies are ADORABLE!!! They look like ducky clones!
Ahh I'm dying from cuteness overload.

Hey Kelly! Those ducks are from our neighborhood pond!! I haven't seen them for a few days and I thought for sure they got hit by a car of something! The chicks are so CUTE! Waffles tried to play with them one day, maybe the mom got so freaked out she decided to find them a new home! CRAZY!!

Awwww...cute, the 2nd one not the 1st!
I don't think ducks need mush water to have their babies...just a wet area...we've had them nest in the over flow basin behind our house which is barely wet.
;-D

I saw a gaggle of geese today and thought of you! They were in the midsection of the highway, though... we didn't see any flying feathers on our way home a while later, so that's promising.

You crack me up sorry to hear about the milk, but super cute pictures. I'm so glad they made it across the road.

When I was young my parents lived on a lake and the poor little duckies didn't always make it across. Guess who got the barral duty. But they are super cute, just don't swim in a lake by them you may just get the 5th disease. Yup don't even ask :)

How cute!

I hope I never see something like that. Only because my kids would want to keep one as a pet and I'd have to explain that no, sorry, we're not ever having a duck as a pet. Then crying and yelling would follow and I'd get a headache..

Funny Post!

We have so many ducks and geese around our neighborhood. I always have to keep an eye out when I'm driving!

SOO glad they didn't become road kill!

Too cute... We get ducks that swim in the puddles along side the road after a rain and they seem perfectly happy.

Awwww Fancesca, you look so cute with your chicks. These pics are so cute. I must say that the dog and the racoon are very disturbing. Way to kill 2 birds with one stone (no pun intended) and get your pics while getting the chickies out of the street. I'm sure they were thanking you in chickish.

Donnetta said...

Commenting again - but we saw the SAME thing today!! Kaley went NUTS!!
